The OS Koppel is based on the 1913 Type 1 locomotive made by the Orenstein and Koppel AG company. Although this was the first locomotive made by that company, their railroad roots went back to 1876 when they started manufacturing railroad cars for industry. They became one of the biggest producers of locomotives in Germany during the first quarter of the 20th Century.
Like all OS locomotives, assembling the Koppel requires basic tools such as spanners and screwdrivers etc, but there are no components that require machining of any kind. With its 5” gauge and simple design, the Koppel makes a great first locomotive for the budding steam enthusiast. It has good power and the simplicity of operation that will not daunt the newcomer. You can also choose from a variety of optional items to enhance both the appearance and driving pleasure.
